It is classified as an extremely hazardous substance in the United States as defined in Section 302 of the U.S. Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (42 U.S.C. 11002), and is subject to strict reporting requirements by facilities which produce, store, or use it in significant quantities.
Structure and uses
Is Oxamyl volatile?
Oxamyl is a carbamate pesticide. It is highly soluble in water, has a low volatility and may have the capacity to leach to groundwater. It is not expected to be persistent in soil or water systems. It is highly toxic to mammals, is a cholinesterase inhibitor and a neurotoxicant.
Permethrin is a pyrethroid insecticide that is similar to the natural insecticide, pyrethrum. Pyrethrum is found in chrysanthemums. Permethrin can kill a broad range of pests, such as fleas, ticks, cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes. Products with permethrin commonly contain piperonyl butoxide (PBO).
Abamectin is an insecticide as well as an acaricide (miticide) and a nematicide. It is also used to control fire ants. Abamectin is provided orally to horses for deworming them.
The nematicide may be applied as granules metered into or over the seed rows during sowing or as a liquid dribbled into the seed furrows. Alternatively, the row positions may be fumigated and the seeds sown in the treated bands of soil, when they are no longer phytotoxic.
Crop Rotation: Crop rotation to a non-host crop can be a useful tool to help manage root-knot nematodes. By alternating to a crop that the nematodes can neither feed on nor complete their life cycle on, this tool can promote a decline in root-knot nematode populations in the soil.
How do I know if I have nematodes?
Typical symptoms of nematode damage can appear above and below the ground in foliage and roots. Foliar symptoms generally appear in the form of stunting of plants, premature wilting, and leaf chlorosis (yellowing).
Paraquat is a toxic chemical that is widely used as an herbicide (plant killer), primarily for weed and grass control. In the United States, paraquat is available primarily as a liquid in various strengths.
Chlorpyrifos is now banned from use on any food sold in the U.S. (see Final Rule here and EPA summary here). This is a victory of science and the law over the poisonous profits of big agrochemical companies, and certainly there is much to celebrate.
Carbaryl is a carbamate ester obtained by the formal condensation of 1-naphthol with methylcarbamic acid. It has a role as an EC 3.1. 1.7 (acetylcholinesterase) inhibitor, a carbamate insecticide, an EC 3.1. 1.8 (cholinesterase) inhibitor, an acaricide, an agrochemical and a plant growth retardant.
Background: Topical permethrin, applied once daily, is considered as the most effective treatment in scabies.
